Aν υπάρχει κάποιο γεγονός που κλέβει την παράσταση κάθε χρόνο, τότε αυτό δεν είναι άλλο από τα Oscar. Φέτος, ανακοινώθηκαν λοιπόν οι νικητές των Oscar, σε μια χρονιά που υπήρξε πολύ μεγάλος ανταγωνισμός, ωστόσο ξεχώρισαν το Everything Everywhere All at Once, με 7 νίκες (οι 5 στις μεγάλες κατηγορίες) και το All Quiet on the Western Front με 4.
Ωστόσο, κάτι που συζητήθηκε και μάλιστα προκάλεσε και μερικές αντιδράσεις ήταν το In Memoriam στα Oscar του 2023. Μπορεί το ολιγόλεπτο βίντεο, τίμησε προσωπικότητες από τον χώρο του κινηματογράφου, που έφυγαν από τη ζωή την χρονιά που μας πέρασε, ωστόσο ξεχάστηκαν πολλά σημαντικά ονόματα.
Σε αυτούς που αναφέρθηκαν να ήταν οι Vangelis (Βαγγέλης Παπαθανασίου) και Ειρήνη Παππά, Andrea Lansbury, Ray Liotta, Olivia Newton-John, Raquel Welch, ο συνθέτης Burt Bacharach, οι σκηνοθέτες Wolfgang Petersen, Bob Rafelson και Jean-Luc Godard, κ.α.
Ωστόσο, εκτός του τμήματος In Memoriam της εκπομπής έμειναν η Anne Heche, ο Paul Sorvino, Tom Sizemore και το μοντέλο/ηθοποιός Charlbi Dean, η οποία είχε πρωταγωνιστικό ρόλο στο Triangle of Sadness, μια ταινία υποψήφια για τρία Όσκαρ φέτος, μεταξύ των οποίων και για Καλύτερη Ταινία. Η ηθοποιός και μοντέλο πέθανε από βακτηριακή σήψη τον Αύγουστο σε ηλικία μόλις 32 ετών.
Ο John Travolta ανέφερε στο σχετικό κομμάτι των Oscar: «Σε αυτή τη βιομηχανία, έχουμε τη σπάνια πολυτέλεια να κάνουμε αυτό που αγαπάμε για να ζήσουμε και μερικές φορές να το κάνουμε με ανθρώπους που αγαπάμε. Δεδομένου ότι απόψε είναι ένας εορτασμός της δουλειάς και των επιτευγμάτων της κοινότητάς μας και της χρονιάς που πέρασε, είναι λοιπόν σωστό να γιορτάσουμε εκείνους που χάσαμε και οι οποίοι αφιέρωσαν τη ζωή τους στην τέχνη τους, τόσο μπροστά όσο και πίσω από την κάμερα. Μέσα από την ανυπολόγιστη συνεισφορά τους, καθένας από αυτούς άφησε ένα προσωπικό και ανεξίτηλο σημάδι που μας διαμόρφωσε».
